An activist at Code Pink has told Radio Islam that while the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives approved a resolution to set the rules for public hearings in the impeachment inquiry of US President Donald Trump, it will not be successful.
The House vote was put forward by Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday after a whistle-blower complaint, including investigative hearings by six House committees targeting Trump’s conduct in office and private business dealings.
The House is investigating whether Trump abused the powers of his office by orchestrating a pressure campaign on Ukraine for domestic, personal political gain.
Code Pink’s Barry Tige says Trump should rather be impeached for the heinous acts that he committed.
“This impeachment will not go through. They (Democrats) don’t have the votes with the Republican party. But if they impeached him for something that he really did. Today it was revealed that in Afghanistan CIA agents and American military are involved in war crimes. This president is a war criminal, he’s killed millions overseas already and I think he should be impeached for his war crimes and for the crimes at the frontier between Mexico and the United States.”
Tige says the Trump administration has exacerbated foreign land invasion as opposed to removing the US military presence.
“The Trump administration has not removed troops, it’s actually added more troops. There’s more than three thousand troops now in Saudi Arabia, the holy land for many Muslims around the world. He’s defending the oil fields in Saudi Arabia and in Syria that he has no business defending and this is oil that belongs to other people. This is once again war for oil, its war for US imperialism.”
Trump maintains he did nothing wrong, labelling the impeachment inquiry a "witch-hunt".
