Gauteng Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Moodey has told Radio Islam embattled Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa, remains the number one man in the capital’s metro.
This comes after ANC regional leader in the Tshwane council Kgosi Maepa tweeted that Mokgalapa had been fired by the DA.
Mokgalapa has come under the spotlight after a leaked tape surfaced which did not show the current mayor in a good light.
While residents of Tshwane are still in the dark over their leadership in the city, Moodey says Mokgalapa has not been expelled from the DA and is still the mayor.
He says the party’s central legal commission has concluded the investigation into the tape and will be reviewing the findings.
“We take any allegations of any matter that could bring or has brought the party into disrepute in a very serious, serious light. We are not a party that will sweep things under the carpet. We will always keep the interests of the people of Tshwane.”
Moodey says the DA and its alliance partners will oppose any motions of no confidence from the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) against Mokgalapa.
