Eskom says it will no longer suspend load shedding from 4pm and 6pm to ease traffic congestion.
The power utility says it’s reversed the decision to halt the power cuts because of higher than projected demand and some generating units were not able to return to service as expected.
The suspension of load shedding during the peak traffic hours is a pilot programme which was announced on Monday by Eskom aimed at achieving an appropriate load shedding Philosophy for the country.
“Eskom is already utilising emergency reserves to supplement capacity. Unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 11 770 MW as at 13:30 this afternoon, in addition to generating units that are currently out on planned maintenance.”
Eskom says stage 2load shedding remains in effect until Thursday at 06:00.
