As the country acknowledges three decades since Nelson Mandela was released from prison on 11 February 1990, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says former President FW De Klerk must be charged for crimes against humanity.

Leader Julius Malema has reportedly warned de Klerk to steer clear of the EFF at this year’s state of the nation address on 13 February.

Parliament has confirmed that former presidents Kgalema Motlanthe, Thabo Mbeki as well as De Klerk will be attending the Sona.

New EFF spokesperson, Vuyani Pambo says De Klerk is not welcome at parliament and has warned him to stay away.

“The former president of apartheid which is de Klerk, is some who should be charged for crimes against humanity. He cannot be in a parliament with us. He is not honourable. There is nothing that associates him with us and there is nothing that associates him with that parliament.”

The red berets have also vowed to disrupt President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Sona on Thursday if Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan remains in office.

The party says it cannot allow for state owned entities to be dismantled and destabilized under the leadership of Gordhan.

Malema addressing the media in Erasmia on Monday made it clear that the party will not allow the president to make his SONA address if he does not fire Gordhan.

Pambo says Gordhan has an agenda for SOE’s like Eskom and South African Airways (SAA).

“It is clear that there is a move towards privatization of taking away the property of the people, to move it towards the hands of white monopoly capital. It is for this reason that we think that Pravin Gordhan must go. It is for his political meddling, but also as him who has power over the president and will not be shaken by the president.”

Pambo says the problems of Eskom and other SOE’s have worsened under the “incompetent and seemingly untouchable” Gordhan.
