The South African Defense Force (SANDF) may be deployed to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus in South Africa.
In a classified memo that has been widely circulated, SANDF members are instructed to prepare to provide support to various government departments.
EWN reports that sources in the SANDF on Monday confirmed to the news organization that the army was ordered to prepare for a possible deployment.
In the memo, the Chief of the SANDF granted permission that the army may support other state departments to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The SANDF has not been available for comment.
While President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation Monday night on measures to be undertaken to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, South Africa has recorded the highest daily increases of infections with 128 cases taking the total national tally to 402.
