With the high prevalence of divorce in the Muslim community and the meddling of family and friends including some in-laws in marriages, esteemed Islamic scholar Ml Sulaimaan Ravat has urged people to strive for unity.
Ml Ravat was quoting a hadeeth by Abu Hurairah (RA) who said that Nabi (SAW) said, “The person who instigates a woman against her husband or a slave against his master is not of us.”
Ml Ravat says the theme of this hadith is unity.
“A marriage is the foundation of unity in the community. If husband and wife are united, families are united and if families are united communities are united. So don’t instigate a woman against her husband or a husband against his wife. Don’t instigate an employee against an employer or vice versa.”
Ml Ravat says there should be an emphasis on bringing people closer by forging ties and relationships instead of creating an atmosphere of instigation, which eats away the fabric of society and fibre of unity.
