The Abu Bakr Asvat Institute has called for the reinstatement Professor Ebrahim Variava with immediate effect.

North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha without warning announced Variava’s suspension from his post as the specialist for internal medicine at the Klerskdorp-Tshepong Hospital Complex.

In a statement the Abu Bakr Asvat Institute’s Ali Osmany says there is no medical or administrative reason to warrant the suspension of Variava who has proven to act totally in the interest of improving the delivery of quality healthcare to the poorest people

“We at the Abu Asvat Institute for nation building believe that the authorities are hiding their own inadequacies and failures to provide quality health interventions particularly with patients afflicted by the Covid 19 virus, by levelling flimsy accusations against professor Variava. The step taken by the authorities is clearly pointing to an abuse of power as well as a human rights infringement.”

Osmany has also called on Health Minister Zweli Mkhize to appoint a panel of medical experts to investigate the operational management of the North West Department of Health.
