COVID-19 Deaths Hit 4,000 Mark – Infections Rise To 276,242

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 276,242.

This is an increase of 12,058 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 108 bringing the total to 4,079.

Gauteng has the most infections with 98,431 followed by Western Cape at 78,399, Eastern Cape at 50,300, KwaZulu-Natal 25,572, Free State 5,224, North West 9,924, Mpumalanga 3,977, Limpopo 3,014, Northern Cape 1,401 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 134,874, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,8%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,154,391, this is an increase of 45,821 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 108 COVID-19 related deaths – 7 from KwaZulu Natal, 15 from Western Cape, 22 from Eastern Cape and 64 from Gauteng. This brings the total deaths to 4,079.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
