COVID-19 Infections in SA Breach 200,000 Mark, Deaths Rise to 3,310

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 205,721.

This is an increase of 8,971 from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 111 bringing the total to 3,310.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 70,938 followed by Gauteng at 66,891, Eastern Cape at 38,081, KwaZulu-Natal 15,819, Free State 2,804, North West 6,410, Mpumalanga 2,173, Limpopo 1,785, Northern Cape 820 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 97,848, which translates to a recovery rate of 47,6%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,864,111, this is an increase of 33,950 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 111 COVID-19 related deaths- 9 from Eastern Cape, 17 from Limpopo, 35 from Western Cape and 50 from Gauteng. This brings the total deaths to 3 310.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
