COVID-19 Infections Spike to 264,184 – Deaths Increase to 3,971

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 264,184.

This is an increase of 13,497 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 111 bringing the total to 3,971.

Gauteng has the most infections with 93,044 followed by Western Cape at 77,336, Eastern Cape at 48,232, KwaZulu-Natal 23,753, Free State 4,679, North West 9,418, Mpumalanga 3,621, Limpopo 2,835, Northern Cape 1,266 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 127,715, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,4%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,108,570, this is an increase of 51,338 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 111 COVID-19 related deaths – 4 from Northern Cape, 13 from KwaZulu Natal, 26 from Gauteng, 30 from Eastern Cape and 38 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 3,971.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
