While the Hajj season is still many months away, Saudi Arabia’s health minister says that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine  will be a prerequisite for pilgrims embarking on the journey of Hajj.

Arabic daily Okaz reports that Tawfiq Al-Rabiah says authorities must prepare appropriate manpower in the health sector in Makkah and Al-Madinah ahead of the annual hajj season.

“Based on those preparations, make the coronavirus vaccine a prerequisite for those who would like to perform Hajj.”

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has confirmed that 302 new COVID-19 infections were picked up in the Kingdom in the past 24 hours with the caseload now at 378,002.

These latest fatalities have pushed the known death toll to 6,505.

The ministry also reported 286 recoveries over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 368,926.

According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in the capital Riyadh with 136, followed by the Eastern Province with 78, Makkah 37 and Al-Jouf with eight and Qassim six cases.
