Egypt sends medical supplies to the US

By Mumtaz Moosa Saley

22:04:2020

On Tuesday Egypt flew a cargo plane of medical supplies to the United States of America, in the hope to assist the American people to help fight COVID-19.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has been eager to forge a relationship with American President Donald Trump. Egypt earlier this month had already shipped much-needed aid to Italy, China and now the U.S.A.

The shipment had sent 200 000 masks, 48 000 shoe covers and 20 000 surgical caps amongst other supplies, an official video shows that the cargo was loaded with an Arabic and English writing saying “from the Egyptian people to the American people.” However, some questioned whether Egypt is in the position to make these donations, while more than one-third of the population lives on about $1,50 a day and cannot afford face masks or hand sanitizers to help fight the global pandemic.

Egypt was the first country in Africa to report a COVID-19 case, to date the infection stands at 3490 with 264 deaths, earlier this month a reporter had been jailed for making claims that the Egyptian government has not been reporting all cases to the World Health Organisation.
