Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has condemned the ill-discipline displayed by a group of learners from Lenasia South Secondary School following a scuffle.

The video which has gone viral on social media shows a learner being brutally attacked by other learners in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic.

It is understood the incident allegedly took place after school on Tuesday on a road in front of the school.

Lesufi visited the school on Wednesday to address the issue.

The MEC says officials revealed that the scuffle, which was necessitated by conflict involving six learners including three Grade 12 learners, two  Grade 11 learners and one Grade 8 learner.

“All identified learners will be suspended for either being an instigator, perpetrator, accomplice or victim. Subsequently, a disciplinary hearing will be conducted in due course.”

Lesufi has instructed the Johannesburg South District to support the school in managing this matter.

“What I witnessed on that video is totally unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. There is no amount of anger that can justify any form of violence in our schools. We denounce all acts of ill-discipline that may compel learners to behave violently.”

Lesufi says police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
