Gauteng Finance MMC Keen to Assist Lenasia Residents with Arrear Accounts

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 02-06-2017

Local ward councillor in Lenasia Kishore Badal says he has met the Gauteng MMC for Finance Rabelani Dagada and his officials to discuss the pre-termination notices and the high arrears on many residents accounts in the suburb.

Concerns were raised last week after so called ‘officials’ were entering residents yards and sticking the notices to walls and garages of homes informing them of pending electricity cuts due to arrear accounts.

Badal says while there are a number of issues and processes involved, Dagada and Officials would consider the problems and consult with the other relevant parties to resolve them.

He says there will be a follow-up meeting soon.

“In the interim, there will still be no cuts, but residents who can’t afford to pay their bills are requested to pay the Current charges. I will advise further, when we next meet on the matter.”

Badal says the MMC is keen to find a way to assist residents and that the 14 day notices will be extended for 3 months giving them more time to engage with homeowners.
