Lenasia South Hit by Water, Electricity & Fiber Outages Leaving Residents Angry & Frustrated

Faizel Patel – 25/10/2020

Lenasia South residents have had a difficult and frustrating weekend following outages of major services in the area, including water, electricity and fiber.

Residents took to social media saying they had no water since Friday.

In a tweet, Joburg water said there were two major burst pipes in the area affecting Lenasia South, Migson Manor and Finetown and that it would be closing the bulk line in order to attend to the repair.

However, no further updates had been provided by Joburg Water indicating whether supply had been restored.

At the same time, Lenasia South on Sunday also experienced an electricity outage following a notice by City Power informing residents of maintenance of infrastructure from 8am until 4pm.

While residents were battling with the electricity and water outages, the suburb was also hit by a fiber outage since Saturday.

In a tweet, Tellkom said: “Hi there, sorry for this inconvenience, there is an area outage that is currently being attended by our technical teams, stay on the lookout for further communication.”

One resident in a tweet shared his frustration in the breakdown of services: “This is crazy, it is an everyday story with the illegal land invaders and water trucks filling water to supply them, the paying residents suffer with no water… This has been happening for too long in Lenasia South. @GeoffMakhubo do something about this.”
