A 47-year-old man who raped a 14 year old girl during 2017 has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Mankweng Regional handed down sentence on Friday.

It understood the teen was playing with her friends  in Ga Makanye Village outside Polokwane when she was accosted by the rapist.

He threatened to kill her after she initially refused to follow him to his house where he raped her

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the life imprisonment.

“We hope that it will serve as a deterrent to all other rapists or rapists to be, that crime does not pay.”

Ledwaba also praised the investigating officer for bringing the rapist to book.
