[LISTEN] Dr. Imraan Buccus: “EFF is Like a Party Run by a Dictator…Poses a Very Serious Threat to South Africa”

Faizel Patel – 18/09/2020

Senior Research Associate at the Auwal Socio-Economic Research Institute (ASRI) Dr Imraan Buccus says the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) remains a dangerous force in South Africa.

Buccus was speaking to Radio Islam on Friday about whether the red berets are a leftist party and threatens the country’s democracy.

Baccus says the EFF are highly authoritarian and much of their actions are not actions of a left party.

“Destroying Clicks stores is not the actions of a left party. It’s really an action of a violent authoritarian organisation where a party is run like a party by a dictator. I think it’s very important for us to reflect on this a little more because these are worrying signs. EFF, and I have said this several times and I don’t think one can say it enough, that the EFF really remains a really dangerous force in South Africa.”

Buccus says while the EFF makes the case that they are on the side of poor black people and are championing the idea of economic transformation, they have ulterior concerns.

“The EFF is more concerned with just enriching themselves by stealing from the poor essentially while pretending that they represent the poor. That stealing occurred from VBS to just a whole range of other scandals.”

Buccus says the EFF definitely has the makings of a “fascist horse” adding that South Africans do not take the red berets who poses a very serious threat to South Africa seriously.
