The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) says it is critical that South Africa maintains its dignity in dealing with issues affecting the country.

In 2018, more than 250-thousand people celebrated Global Dignity Day in over 70 countries around the world.

Thousands of people will participate in the Global Dignity campaign, which is taking place on Wednesday.

This is an especially important issue in South Africa with its racial divisions, gender-based violence, xenophobia and high crime rate.

The Executive Director of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, Stan Henkeman says the many issues in South Africa speaks to undermining the dignity of people.

“We just very strongly that we also need to give leadership in terms of so what is it that we do want. Can we help South Africans to move towards something that will help us to be more anti-racist, to be more inclusive in terms of gender and all of that.”

Global Dignity’s community of leaders has grown dramatically, now working in over 70 countries around the world- from Mongolia to Costa Rica, Poland to South Africa- to instill a deeper understanding of the values and principles of dignity.
