As South Africa enters the second week of the blessed month of Ramadan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has distributed  more than three thousands food parcels benefitting about 25,000 needy and poor South Africans.

The official handover was done at the Religious Attaché of Saudi Arabia in Pretoria on Thursday.

The initiative is part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Gift Programme which has benefitted more than fifty countries across the globe.

With the current COVID-19 pandemic affecting South Africa and the globe, thousands of people have been left destitute by the economic and financial impact of the Coronavirus.

Speaking at the distribution, Religious Attaché Mohammed Ashour says the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is honoured to distribute food parcels to the less fortunate during the great month of Ramadan.

“This year is more than three thousand one hundred food baskets distributed to Muslim countries, the world and South Africa. I ask Allah the Almighty to ease and lift the current COVID-19 pandemic from us all.”

Ashour also thanked Saudi Arabia’s Religious Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdul Latif Al Shaikh and the Royal  Embassy of Saudi Arabia’s ambassador HE Sultan al Angari.

The Royal  Embassy of Saudi Arabia’s chargé d’affaires Ali Al Shehri says they hope the food baskets will assist in alleviating the negative impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The campaign reflects the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to cement the relationship with the friendly people of the government of South Africa.”

Last week, the Religious Attaché of Saudi Arabia distributed more than ten tons of dates to Muslims across South Africa during the blessed month of Ramadan.
