Lenasia police are investigating a case attempted murder and possession of live ammunition after a shooting at the temporary taxi rank at the Jamia Masjid in Gemsboks Street.

Police say they received a complaint about the shooting on Saturday.

It’s understood upon arrival at the crime scene, the officers spotted an unknown 29-year-old man who fired shots randomly at the taxi rank.

The police’s Bafana Ndimande says no one was injured in the shooting.

He says the suspect was handcuffed and detained at the Lenasia SAPS cells

“The people started to disperse and ran away. The unknown male also ran away when he saw the police officers and they gave chase. He was shooting at the officers and they managed to apprehend him at an open veld opposite the SANDF Military Base where he was hiding. The officers searched the male and found eighteen rifle, and forty-eight pistol live ammunition on him.”

Ndimande says the suspect is expected appear at the Lenasia Magistrates Court soon.
