SA COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 13,059 – Infections Jump to 609,773

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 609,773.

This is an increase of 2,728 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 72 bringing the total to 13,059.

Gauteng has the most infections with 206,018 followed by Western Cape at 104,588, Eastern Cape at 85,203, KwaZulu-Natal 109,841, Free State 34,980, North West 24,301, Mpumalanga 23,100, Limpopo 12,563, Northern Cape 9,129 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 506,470 which translates to a recovery rate of 83%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,553,425 this is an increase of 18,358 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 72 new COVID-19 related deaths: 11 from Eastern Cape, 41 from Gauteng, 12 from KwaZulu Natal and 8 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 13,059.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
