SA COVID-19 Infections Increase to 611,450 Deaths to 13,159

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 611,450.

This is an increase of 1,677 from Sunday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 100 bringing the total to 13,159.

Gauteng has the most infections with 206,525 followed by Western Cape at 104,667, Eastern Cape at 85,240, KwaZulu-Natal 110,102, Free State 35,367, North West 24,371, Mpumalanga 23,163, Limpopo 12,643, Northern Cape 9,322 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 516,494 which translates to a recovery rate of 84%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,564,065 this is an increase of 10,640 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 100 new COVID-19 related deaths: 14 from KwaZulu Natal, 36 from Mpumalanga, 12 from Gauteng,  8 from Limpopo, 11 from Eastern Cape and 19 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,159.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
