SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 622,551 as Deaths Jump to 13,981

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 622,551.

This is an increase of 2,419 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 238 bringing the total to 13,981.

Gauteng has the most infections with 209,123 followed by KwaZulu-Natal 112,291, Western Cape at 105,676, Eastern Cape at 85,899, Free State 37,157, North West 25,086, Mpumalanga 23,946, Limpopo 13,039, Northern Cape 10,284 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 536,694 which translates to a recovery rate of 86%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,652,970 this is an increase of 20,659 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 238 more COVID-19 related deaths: 19 from KwaZulu Natal, 81 from Gauteng, 6 from Eastern Cape, 9 from Western Cape and 123 from the Free State. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,981.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
