Two Shoppers Injured During Jewellery Shop Robbery at Pavilion Mall in Durban

Two shoppers, a father and son have been injured after a group of criminals robbed the Narandas Jewellery shop at the Pavilion Shopping Mall in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

It is understood an employee was packing the jewelry at the store  in Westville when they were accosted by three armed men.

Police say the suspects assaulted the employees, demanded the safe keys and took a bag of jewellery.

Spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

“The security guards who were performing their duties noticed what was happening and confronted the suspects. A shootout ensued between the guards and the suspects. A civilians was shot in the cross fire, he sustained gunshot wound to his right knee and was taken hospital for medical attention. One employee sustained assault wounds on the body and face. The security guard did not sustain any injuries.”

Mbele says police are investigating charges of robbery, assault and attempted murder.
