UUCSA Urges Muslims to Search for Eid Moon as Blessed Month of Ramadan Draws to a Close

As the blessed month of Ramadan sadly comes to an end, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has urged Muslims across the country to engage in the Sunnah of searching for the moon of Shawwal.

While the moon for Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to sighted on Saturday night and Eid celebrated on Sunday,  many including Radio Islam accept only the official confirmation of the moon sighting by UUCSA.

In the event of the moon being sighted anywhere in the country, please contact the UUCSA Hilaal Committee on 083-786-2859.

At the same time, while the blessed day of Eid will be celebrated under the current COVID-19 lockdown which prohibits prayers in congregation at places of worship to stop the pandemic, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has provided an alternative for those who cannot perform the Eid Salaah.

“Those at home who are unable to perform the Eid Salaah, due to not meeting the conditions of Eid Salaah, may perform two or four rakaats Nafl salaah individually without any takbirat or khutbah.”

The Jamiat says the time of Eid Salaah commences from approximately 15 minutes after sunrise until Zawwal.
