With South Africa’s international borders now open, South African expats KSA an informal volunteer group operating on WhatsApp are exploring options to repatriate South Africans back to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The group says there about 200 passengers still stranded in South Africa who want return to their jobs, homes and families in the Kingdom.

In a message to Radio Islam, the group says they are negotiating with Saudi Arabian Airlines for a special flight on 7 October from Jeddah to Johannesburg and to return on same day.

According to the group, Saudi airlines requires a minimum number of passengers in on return flights to make it commercially viable.

The groups Ahmed Arbee says the initiative is for expats who wish to return from South Africa to Jeddah.

“We are trying to arrange a last minute flight to help the 200 or so South Africans that are still stranded in South Africa. Alhamdulillah, many have managed to get across, but many others are still struggling with all the regulations and the red tape.”

He says while the flight is not confirmed, people should register their interest and the Saudi national carrier will contact passengers directly if the request is successful.

Arbee says the deadline for response is 8pm on Sunday, 4 October.
